April was the pandemic peak for international travel

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Los Angeles International Airport saw more international travelers in April than in any other month since February 2020, officials said Wednesday.

More than 1.2 million international travelers passed through the airport in April, up 195% from 424,221 international travelers in April 2021, according to LAX. Domestic travel also increased by 58%, and the airport received a total of 5.441 million passengers in April, up almost 77% from the same month in 2021.

“The spring travel season has seen a steady return to air travel at LA Airport, and we’re particularly excited to see our international traffic increase as summer approaches,” said Los Angeles World Airports CEO Justin Erbacci.

“While there are some barriers to further growth, including a lack of resources and higher fuel prices, there are also many signs that people are willing to travel and we are excited to welcome travelers back to our airport with new perks and innovative technology to create a seamless and effective guest experience,” added Erbacci.

While passenger traffic increased, the airport saw a 6.83% decrease in air cargo traffic compared to April 2021, with 234,007 tons of cargo handled in April 2022.
