Bali is poised to become the top medical tourism destination for Australians as the Indonesian government invests in its cosmetics industry.

The holiday mecca has taken an economic hit from its heavy reliance on tourism during the Covid pandemic, as travel bans have hampered the usually steady flow of foreign visitors.

Now, like many other countries, the island has learned these hard-learned lessons and is looking to expand its commercial interests by becoming a hotspot for plastic surgery.

Bali has invested in a new aesthetic, wellness and rejuvenation center at Sangla Hospital, due to open in a few months.

Dermatologist Dr Eckers said the project would allow Australians to go under the knife at more affordable prices than at home.

“Lips, eyes, chest. All plastic surgeries. Anything you want,” she told Current Affair magazine.

“We want our patients to age gracefully. Healthy inside and out.”

The six-story building will provide specialized care for a variety of services, including breast augmentation, Botox and buttock lift.

While there is already a beauty industry in the tourist hub, the authorities hope the investment will make the country a first choice destination, offering better treatments and treatments than those available in Thailand or Singapore.

However, Australians vacationing in Bali are divided over whether they will accept the offer to go under the knife.

“I have a medical background, and if they are not going to staff their hospitals with our trained staff, then no,” said one woman.

“They think the water cleans everything here.

Another woman said it “would be great” if they could introduce better aesthetic services on the island, while a third said it “should be nice” if they raise their standard.

“For the people here, I think that would be a great idea,” the man said.
