Dubrovnik, Croatia, nicknamed the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, combines terracotta views with impeccable sea views, as well as a well-preserved Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
However, for many, he is known for his starring role as a backdrop on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Dubrovnik is also one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean, attracting 1.5 million tourists in 2019 alone.
And while others call it a wish list destination, I call it home. I moved here from my hometown of Minneapolis in 2017 after spending a semester abroad while attending college in 2015. I was inspired by my own Croatian heritage through my grandfather and was captivated by the beauty of Dubrovnik. I fell in love with the city – and the locals – and eventually returned to Dubrovnik to make it my permanent residence.
Today, I am a travel blogger turned Croatian travel consultant helping travelers plan their trips around Croatia. My fiancé, a native of Dubrovnik, and I specialize in the region of Dubrovnik and South Dalmatia. Over the years I have become an expert on Dubrovnik, discovering the best hotels, restaurants, events and beaches around the city.
My goal is to help travelers get to know the authentic side of Dubrovnik. Go beyond the crowds and tourist traps and you will discover that Dubrovnik has a rich cultural heritage, seen through traditions such as the celebration of St. Konavle region.
For this reason, I always recommend travelers to explore areas outside of Dubrovnik’s Old Town. You will learn more about what the whole region has to offer: gastronomy, culture, impeccable beaches and much more.
To get off the beaten track and get to know the Dubrovnik I fell in love with, keep reading my City and Surroundings Guide and then take your time. “Little” is a local phrase you often hear that translates to “slow down” or “calm down.” So, while in Dubrovnik, practice the art of “little by little” by slowing down, living in the moment, and embracing it all.
