Stormzy was approached by Netflix and Amazon to make movies and TV shows.
The 28-year-old grime star was recently approached by two streaming giants to adapt titles from his award-winning publisher #Merky Books.
A source told The Sun’s Bizarre column: “Netflix and Amazon are currently courting Stormzy as they think he’s the perfect fit for a new black British series.
“Shows like ‘Top Boy’ play very well overseas, and Stormzy has built a solid reputation as a storyteller.
“Streaming services want him on board, with the possibility of a multi-episode deal like the one Shonda Rhimes got with Netflix.
“The deal gave them Bridgerton, so there’s a lot of hope that Stormzy can do it.
“#Merky Books now manages a few titles so they’re looking into them to see if there’s a movie or TV series that could be made from them.”
Stormzy launched his publishing venture in 2018 by joining forces with Penguin Random House.
Hitmaker Vossi Bop announced at the time that his #Merky Books imprint would target young writers as well as emerging fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
He wrote on Instagram: “Very proud to announce our new venture #MerkyBooks. We will use it as a platform for young writers to become published authors, I know too many talented writers who don’t always have an outlet or funds. to get their work seen, and hopefully #MerkyBooks can now be the starting point for them to say “I can be an author” and make that a realistic and achievable goal.
“We will be running school competitions, accepting submissions and submissions, and looking for writers, but I will keep you posted! (sic)”
