The organization behind the Oscars has named Bill Kramer as their new CEO.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Tuesday that Kramer, who currently heads the Academy Film Museum, will replace Don Hudson in the role starting in July.

In his place as CEO, Kramer will oversee the Academy Awards, Academy memberships, the organization’s educational and mentoring initiatives, and the museum and collections held at the Margaret Herrick Library and the Academy Film Archive. It received the unanimous support of the organization’s Board of Governors.

“I am honored to take on the role of CEO of the Academy,” Kramer said in a statement. “I deeply believe in the power and artistry of cinema. I look forward to using the Academy’s unparalleled assets – the Oscars, our global community of over 10,000 Academy members, and our museum, library and archive – to advance and exalt the art and science of film and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.” .

Kramer helped open the Academy Museum last September, which sold more than 550,000 tickets in its first nine months of operation.

Academy President David Rubin said Kramer’s vision for the organization is “bold and inspiring, and our Governors agreed that he is the ideal choice to lead at this pivotal time for the organization. We believe that Bill has the power to bring together all corners of the film community and we are thrilled that in this role he will elevate the organization and unite our members around the world.”

Hudson, who served as the Academy’s CEO for 11 years, remains with the organization as a transitional consultant.

“I’ve been with Bill for almost a decade and no executive is more innovative, more connected to artists or more passionate about opportunities than he is,” Hudson said. “The Academy and the Museum of the Academy are in safe hands.”
