Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority certifies next generation guides

19 new guides, including five UAE nationals tasked with bringing more than 7,000 years of Emirate history to life, received their certificates at a graduation ceremony held on 21 June 2022.

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE: The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), in partnership with the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) – Center for Executive and Vocational Education, has certified 19 successful graduates of the 2022 Tour Guide Training Program, the first year post-pandemic.

The new guides include five UAE nationals from across Ras Al Khaimah who will use their skills to share the rich history of the tribes and take visitors on a unique historical and cultural journey through the emirate’s fascinating heritage and traditions.

Designed for those seeking a career as a guide, the program is designed to equip candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to maximize professional opportunities in the travel industry and meet industry standards. Classes are taught by lecturers and instructors who have many years of experience in the field of cultural heritage and use world standards to transfer their knowledge, resulting in world-class tourism professionals.

During May and June, participants received hands-on ground training to learn the art of effective commentary, active listening, managing difficult situations, and leading effective small and large tours, as well as a range of additional skills to help them advance their careers. During the graduation ceremony held at AURAK on June 21, 2022, candidates who successfully completed the course and passed both theory and practical exams received an official certificate and guide card issued by the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. Newly certified guides are now eligible to join tourism-focused organizations and companies that organize cultural activities for visitors, including city tours, heritage site tours and wider excursions around the Emirate.
