Robbie Williams confirms he’ll headline entertainment for the AFL Grand Final

Pop superstar Robbie Williams will headline this year’s AFL grand finale.

The 48-year-old musician is one of the most recognizable musicians of the past 25 years, having created cult hits such as Angels as well as Let me entertain you.

Williams will perform before a game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday 24 September.

“I am so excited to be performing in front of all the fans in the hallowed territory of the MCG in the most important game of the year,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with some very talented local Australian musicians and can’t wait to see you all on the last Saturday in September.

“If all goes well, I might even raise my hand to be the next CEO of the AFL.”

For the past two seasons, pre-game entertainment on the final day has been cut short due to COVID, so adding Williams to this year’s game is a huge deal.

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said there was no better artist than Williams in a bustling 100,000-seat stadium.

“We’re back at the MCG, again in front of 100,000 fans, and there’s no better performer than Robbie Williams to help boost the atmosphere ahead of the nation’s biggest sporting event,” he said.
