Spin Master Entertainment Announces Children’s Series ‘Vida the Vet’

Spin Master Entertainment, the production company behind the PAW Patrol and Bakugan children’s franchises, is inviting a new character to the party.

diversity learned solely from the launch of “Vida the Vet,” which chronicles the age of ten when she cares for the animal community. The animated series will premiere in autumn 2023 on BBC CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and Corus Entertainment Treehouse and StackTV in Canada. Information on other international broadcast partners, including a US distributor, will be announced at a later date.

Vida, 10, spends her days caring for forest creatures that live outside her home, from a fox with a sprained leg to a turtle with an itchy toe and a tiger with a bad tooth.

“We started with a desire to bring the message of parenting to preschoolers,” says Dodge. “What feeling good is like when he can model good self-care and good care for others—and at the same time assuage a young child’s fears of his own visits to the doctor or dentist.”

“Some of the shows we’ve done in the past are high-end computer science studies, but with Vida we wanted it to look classic,” she adds. “In order to make the forest and all the animals stand out, we needed a beautiful color palette and illustrative 2D animation.”

A collaboration between creator Dustin Ferrer (Esme & Roy, Peg & Cat), showrunner Jennifer Oxley (Wonder Pets!, Peg & Cat) and animation studio Jam Filled Entertainment created visually soothing compositions: soft blues, green and purple for outdoor backgrounds; flowing red hair and wide eyes for Vida.

Spin Master is a toy company at its core, with its entertainment division launched in 2008 and a larger company founded in 1984. line.

“Spin Master is comprised of three creative hubs: entertainment, toys and digital games,” said Jennifer Dodge, the company’s president of entertainment. “The role of entertainment is to create content that can be a catalyst for the other two creative hubs. Over time, Vida will have a beautiful line of toys. But first and foremost it’s about creating the story, creating the characters, creating the world.”

Dodge says developing ideas in the entertainment department and then consulting with colleagues working on toys and games allows Spin Master to bake on-screen elements that will contribute to the final merchandising.

“Paw Patrol is the best example of this. We were able to bring in resources that make sense and eliminate what doesn’t make sense,” explains Dodge. “For example, in terms of content, we wanted the area to receive a call to give the pups their instructions, the moment of the first response. Our toy group said, “We can build a tower with a slide so the puppies can jump into their cars and that way we can spin the cars around.” [when toys are made].’”

“But there are definitely times when there might be a request from another group within the company, and if that just doesn’t make sense for that facility, we find another solution,” she continues. “We are very protective. Everything that goes into every show has a storytelling purpose.”

Vida the Vet is executive produced by Dodge, Oxley, Laura Clooney, Tony Stevens and Spin Master co-founder Ronnen Harari. The first season will consist of 52 11-minute episodes, with Vida the Vet toys debuting in 2024.
