Thomasville Tourism Announces Summer Window Decoration Winners

On May 20, the Thomasville Tourism Commission announced the winners of its first summer window decoration competition.

First place went to the Antique Store. The winners were three windows with antique mechanical wooden figurines symbolizing important figures in American history. The company has also decorated two other display cases with some items from different vendors that are sold in the mall.

The other Window Window Contestants were Lily and Vine Boutique; His Dwelling; Haircut Creation; Treasures of Mimi and Thomasville Gate.

The first-place winners of the contest received $350; runners-up won $100 and third-place winners $50. All finalists won a Hi Toms jersey and two season tickets.

Runner-up in the Thomasville Summer Window Decorating Contest was Logan and Sidney Watts at 11 Salem Street.

Thomasville Tourism has hosted a Christmas window decoration competition for the past two years, but this is the first year of a summer window decoration competition.

Cameron Marsden, director of tourism for Thomasville, said the idea for the summer window dressing contest came from one of the tourism commission’s community partners, High Point/Thomasville HiToms baseball team president Greg Suir.

“Greg mentioned this and we just started brainstorming,” Marsden said. We wanted something with an American theme. Something that is just fun and engaging and also showcases our local business. We wanted it to be done by May 20th in time for the Memorial Day parade.”

She said she hopes the new summer window decoration contest will evoke patriotism, hometown pride, and support merchants in downtown Thomasville.

Abby's This and That Store won third place in the Thomasville Summer Tourism Showcase Competition.

“We love our small business and support the local community,” said Marsden. “So when Greg from Hi Toms approached us with a proposal to host a window decorating contest for the summer, the Tourist Board jumped at the idea. Our windows are so bright and full of life, and we are very grateful to all the participants.”

The Thomasville Summer Window Decorating Contest was organized by the Thomasville Tourism Commission and the winners were selected by the Thomasville Improvement Committee.
